Thumbs up My car of the day, new 2021 Nissan Qashqai.

There has been very few British automotive successes than Nissan's Qashqai and even though the badge is Japanese, it was designed, engineered and built in the UK. When the first Qashqai arrived 15 years ago it existed in a class on it's own but now there are more than 30 SUV rivals all offering similar to the Qashqai, so does this 2021 update still make the grade? Promising more space, greater quality, enhanced technology and sharper dynamics. Nissan hasn't played it safe with the design either with it's sharp creases, bold curves and indeed an overall bolder look. A two-tone roof is now standard and the top of the range Teka +model seen here gets arch filling 20 inch wheels. It's 60 Kg lighter than the old model it replaces despite it being longer, wider and higher and boasting 48% torsional rigidity. The weight savings are due to the use of aluminium bonnet, doors and front wings. For now the only engine is the familiar 1.3 litre petrol engine with a hybrid model not due until later in the year. The CVT auto gear box has been improved and a six speed manual is on offer also. There's also a list of safety equipment and it features one of the most intelligently designed and neatly packaged interior layouts in the business. The Qashqai is an SUV that's been designed with family use at it's heart, that's for sure.

The one to wait for is the E-Power, full blown range extender and already been on sale for a few months in other markets to much praise

On the grounds the one we had was about as reliable as a late 70's Lancia was at avoiding rust, then i'd rather eat my own eyeballs.
The one we had, 2016 model, had 7 new batteries despite Nissan assuring us nothing was wrong. Nor was there anything wrong when it needed two sets of glow plugs.

God forbid i would ever claim French cars are the last word in reliability but my 308GTi never once missed a beat in 3 years, that Qashqai went back to the dealers once a month for 3 years. Never again so a no from me.

Like the colour but as muzzer says, not the most reliable of beasts!

If it wasn’t for the french bits they would be ok, the french engine is even powering small Mercedes

Interior looks a pleasant enough place to be. Rear is OK, side profile no and front end is just plain awful.

Mrs has a face lifted 1st gen J10 and think that’s better looking 11 years later!
