Certainly not going to link one of my existing accounts.
I, like Alan W had my account hacked years ago and someone was selling two Ducatis a Honda and a 60' yacht on my account.
I got charged the insertion fees and had several hundred emails asking me about the bikes/yacht etc

Caused me some stress for a few days and I've never really wanted much to do with it since, and having the 'safety net' of PayPal has always been a bit of a relief.

Not now though
Good idea. It’s years since I set up a current account, with all the security nowadays, is it easy to do? I’m certainly not giving existing C/Acct details, just as I haven’t to PayPal, it’s all done through a low limit credit card.

There seems to be a few online selling sites being advertised on the tv recently, possible alternatives to eBay?

(The only thing I was ‘selling hacked’ was selling a mini digger. I received some foul language messages from potential buyers as I wasn’t responding to their questions - that I’d never received of course - before it was sorted)

I've been selling on eBay for years, but will sadly no longer use it. There is no way I will be sharing my personal banking details with eBay. How long will it be before they are hacked? I don't agree with posting items out as soon as they are paid, but not receiving the money for a few days.
I think this is a bad idea by eBay, they have been dwindling for years, and this move will not do them any favours. Selling on eBay has become difficult over the years, items never seem to realise their full potential, as so many people are using sniping software, and so many people cannot be bothered to leave feedback either. It all seems to be geared towards the buyer, the sellers don't seem to matter, even though it is they who pay the fees.
Time to find another site to sell unwanted items. Does anyone know of any other good sites where Paypal can be used?

Seems eBay are pushing out the casual private seller, maybe they are happy to concentrate on just retaining the commercial sellers?

Does the new system mean folk like me (who only ever buy, and never sell on eBay) have to do anything? Does linking your bank account only apply to those who want to sell?

Is there an alternative to eBay?

I don't sell much but I do use it to sell occasionally.

I do like the auction format as for some stuff I have no idea of its "value" so can't put a sensible/realistic price on it. Happy to leave it to go for what it's "worth" but not keen on what's coming.

tbh, I would never be selling on ebay again. Took me 3 times to sell my car with a variety of excuses from the 'buyers'. Even had one that had the audacity to tell me he 'had changed his mind'. Sorry pal, thats not how an auction works. When I explained he would have to go through with it, he smashed my account with negative feedback 'exposing' me as a scammer selling a car that didnt exist. It was only after 4 emails to ebay that I got the feedback removed. Ironically, I still had to pay for the selling fees which was nearly £35 each time. Such a joke!

the £16 dispute fee sounds like it could suck...so i sell something for £3 and the seller kicks off im down £16 + the £3 plus the item ?

i liked paypal , i used it as a wallet for spending on car stuff so i didnt touch my savings

As above in the comments is there a viable alternative to Ebay? I tried to sell some items on Amazon and I felt like I needed to be an IT expert in Silicon Valley to set it all up and when I did set it up I sold 4items instantly to Egypt and Spain lol so I gave up.
There doesn't seem to be an alternative. I looked into these new Mobile apps for selling (Schpock SP and depop etc) but they seem to be full of knock off stuff so as a business I wouldn't know where to sell stuff.

A few have come and gone but I also wish there was a good alternative

Has anyone used Amazon to sell one off items at a fixed price yet? I haven’t looked into it fully so unsure how simple it is.

I've used the new process and it worked fine.

It seems a bit convoluted at first, but there isn't that much to it once you're familiar with it.
