I’m not that short, but the idea of claying, polishing and waxing the missus Discovery Sport’s roof is driving me mad. Spent the day decontaminating and polishing the rest of the car, ready for waxing in the morning, but reckon I’ll be leaving the roof for another time.
How do people get enough height and leverage to machine polish the roofs on SUV’s? I can’t get a secure reach and footing.
this is what i use for the Berlingo van's roof. not sure what length or height it is though as its my dads. Still need to take care when using it, when washing its metal and your feet are wet
encountered this yesterday on my mates xc90. i'm tall but even i couldn't get to the centre from both sides. got the steps out for a quick spray of sealant and a buff off.
i can just about do my other mates xc60.
Nicked it from my kids room earlier, perfect. Thank you.
Still tough work with the DA, single handed trying to get the centre of the roof, the panel is thin and starts flexing causing the polisher to bounce, horrid.
I initially used a small 2 step ladder with our Range Rover, I typically now just open the front and rear doors, boost up on the side step then kneel one knee on seat. I find this gives good reach into the centre.
It a PITA - my Land Cruiser has side steps so I use these but still have to open the rear door and hop up on the ledge to do the last few feet. Mine's been raised too so it's quite a step up! I just make sure it's done really well and given a couple of coats of Fusso so I don't have to worry about it so much!
I have a couple of these in different lengths Andy:thumb:
Shop around as they are normally around £20 decorating centres, machine mart, Costco, wickes, tool station, they all sell them. Quality wise I never see much difference tbh
Picked up a 3 step ladder from stax. Luckily, most of the roof is panoramic, so I dont have to polish much paintwork!
